A helping hand in English
This year we have a new foreign language assistant from England at our school. Her name is Alinor Herzberg, she is 21 years old, and her birthday is on the 2nd of May. She is in Germany because she wants to be a teacher one day and can practice her teaching skills in English very well at a German school. Alinor is already fluent in German. She will help us improve our English until May 2026.

Alinor studied psychology at Leeds University. She just graduated in July. Unfortunately, there were no graduation caps when she graduated because this is an American tradition. Leeds has its own football club called Leeds United, but Alinor is a Liverpool fan so Leeds United doesn’t really matter to her. During her time in Leeds, she often visited the retro cinema and the parks. Alinor was also the president of a university sports club.
She is staying in Brück with German relatives. Her brother Thomas is 19 years old. Back in England, she lived in an area called the Wirral. It’s a peninsula near Liverpool and one hour away from Manchester.
“When I was still in school, we always had to wear a uniform,” she told us. The uniform included a skirt, and she said the girls were always freezing in winter. In England school starts at 9 am, while school here in Germany starts at 8 am. She was very surprised about that.
Alinor likes going to the gym and loves listening to music. Back in England she was actually a ballroom and Latin dancer. She told us that she has danced since she was five and that she won a competition in February.
Her favourite English dish is beans on toast with cheese, while her favourite German food is Mettwurst.
Alinor is very nice, and I am excited to spend the bilingual history lessons on Mondays with her.
