Unser neuer Fremdsprachenassistent aus Kanada

Kyle Massia

In this article I would like to introduce you to Kyle Massia, the new foreign language assistant at our school. He will help us to speak better English until the end of May 2015.
He comes from Nova Scotia, a place which he said looks a bit like a lobster. Nova Scotia (lat. New Scotland) is a province on the east coast of Canada at the Atlantic Ocean.

Kyle studied at Saint Mary’s University in Halifax, where he got his master’s in German history. This is one of the subjects he will teach in Germany. Kyle has already made some new friends, most of them are language assistants, like him, but they all have different nationalities. In his free time, he likes to read fictional and historical books or he likes to watch independent movies. He also likes big cities, like Cologne and Italian food.
When Kyle first came to our class, we asked him a lot about the differences between Germany and Canada. He told us a lot of interesting things. Most people, for example, know that it’s unusual that we’ve got three different school types after primary school. Just like in the USA, pupils in Canada go to high school. But we did not know that they do not use blackboards there. „This is probably the first time I’ve seen a blackboard in fifteen years“, he told us. We learned that whiteboards are more popular in Canada. What surprised me, too, is that he likes the German weather. It was no longer surprising when he told us about the Canadian winter!

We all want to welcome Kyle Massia here at the Albertus-Magnus-Gymnasium in Bensberg and we are looking forward to learn more about Canada.
